Fighting Spam
As many of you unfortunatley had to notice, the spam bots are back. Just yesterday I deleted around 30 spammers and I logged on today and there they were again.
So, here's what we're going to do:
- from now on all users wanting to register at the board will have to be approved by me. I activate the accounts which means I can actually delete the spam accounts before they start posting their crap
- I went through all registered users and deleted about 400 inactive posters. There's around 300 more that are not spammers, but since they haven't posted a single time, I'm considering deleting them too
- if you stumble upon a spam posting, please report it to any of the moderators; we're always on the lookout, but something might be overseen
Thanks for your continued support and here's hoping these actions will contain the situation a bit.

Damn, the spam bots are back again. I just deleted over 80 postings.
I installed an add-on to the forum and hope that it helps fight those nasty and stupid bots.
I'm also going through our members database and deleting inactive members and usernames/emails that look suspicious. I'm sorry if I'm accidentally deleting actual members.

Re: Fighting Spam
hello all:
Even though I managed some permissions for bots and guests every once and then some spamer shows, some even can post without an account
so if you see a spam anywhere in the forum PM me or Carol as soon as possible, we'll take care of that.
thanks.

Re: Fighting Spam
hello
we're getting lot of Spam lately, sometimes it's pretty obvious, some not, so if you see someone in the Newbie section and has a weird sign for few examples: We drink to your health Image or watch movies online, please don't reply just report it.
Thank you

we need to ban their accounts/IP and email as well.
Unfortunately I can't ban account/IPs, I can only delete posts. I'd rather just delete the threads as soon as possible because the longer they are there, the more we are giving the spammers what they want. Next time I'll try to post the IP/or account name for someone to ban. However most spammer accounts just make a few posts and then never log back in after that anyway
